Q: Who are the people treated by New
Views?
A: Residents of Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital who are assessed
as having a co-occurring disorder (mental illness and substance
and/or alcohol abuse).
Q: What is the referral process?
A: New Views assesses patients at Greystone Park Psychiatric
Hospital for entry into the program based on their intake criteria.
Q: What treatments are offered by New
Views?
A: The treatment is based on the motivational interviewing, evidence
based best practice models
coupled with best practices for all groups and activities, as
well as individual counseling, education, and lectures.
Q: How long are people treated at New
Views?
A: The length of treatment is dependent on the need of the
individual as they progress. Treatment is terminated based on:
1) an individual reaching a level of knowledge, where they can be
supported solely by self-help groups; 2) if an individual is unable
to maintain psychiatric stability to continue to program or 3)
Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital has formally discharged the
patient to the community.
Q: Does New Views support internships?
A: The program will accept a limited number of interns from
counseling programs at accredited institutions.
Q: Does New Views utilize volunteers?
A: New Views utilizes volunteers through the program which includes
time during normal business hours, and/or after hours client
activities.
Q: Do you offer as part of your program
availability to Self-Help meetings?
A: All enrolled clients are invited to attend both AA and NA
meetings held weekly at the program. Permission must be
received from the hospital for patients to attend. Outside
speakers are booked for these meetings. Some clients, with
permission of their teams, may be taken to community self-help group
meetings.
